Some would call him an ingenious noble-person as the Rothschild banking family were very cunning, savvy and great business people. What some of you may not be familiar with is that during their time the Rothschild family (like the royal families of Europe) only would marry within the family. This kept their family safe from spies, intruders and pretend loyalists.

Mayer Amschel was born in the ghetto (called “Judengasse” or Jew Alley) in Frankfurt, Germany. The Rothschild name was later adopted after Mayer Amschel passed away as it was higher sounding. Rothschild was derived from the words ‘Red Shield’ as Mayer Amschel opened up an old and rare coin shop and named it roth-schild (German for red shield). To read more: click here

These types of stories of history fascinate me. Did you know that Meyer Amschel was ranked 7th on the Fordbes magazine list of “The Twenty Most Influential Businessmen of all Time”. The magazine referred to him as a “founding father of international finance”.
